First political consultations between Lithuania and Qatar take place in Vilnius

On 7 November, the first political consultations between Lithuania and Qatar took place in Vilnius. The two delegations were led by the Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Neris Germanas and the Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Qatar Dr. Ahmad Hassan Al Hamadi.
The officials signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the establishment of political consultations on issues of mutual interest between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Qatar. The delegations discussed bilateral relations, the situation in the Middle East and in the Persian Gulf region.
The delegations also agreed to strengthen the legal framework for bilateral relations. They shared relevant information on bilateral trade agreements that were being negotiated and ways to enhance bilateral economic relations. In addition, members of the Qatari delegation expressed a wish to cooperate in the fields of energy, innovation, agriculture, education, and research.
Lithuania and Qatar established their diplomatic relations on 25 November 1992.
